To the budding writer – A year and two months ago, I published for the first time. I began the journey a few months before then, after struggling to find something interesting to read. That’s right. I’ve had zero training. I’ve never been to a writing seminar or finished an author course of any kind. I’m not saying everyone can be an author—it takes patience, perseverance, and guts. But if you enjoy writing and have a passion for books, it’s possible. Look at me. I’m doing it.

To Marykate Hoffman – I love our chats. Your insights and encouragement are indispensable! Thank you for being so awesome!

For years, I’ve pretended to be someone I’m not. I’ve committed heinous acts and followed orders from evil people to gain the trust of the ISC, and now that they’ve made me the perfect weapon, I’m ready to meet the alpha on the other side of my mate bond.

Except, he isn’t just any alpha. He’s the leader of the Alpha Elites–a top secret Special Operations unit of super soldiers–and he’s ready to do whatever it takes to destroy me.

He knows I’m his omega lifemate, but he thinks I’m his enemy.

I’ve played my part too well, and now I must convince him I’m not an ISC pawn before time runs out.

Will he rage war against me or make me his queen?

  Chapter 1

  Vander

One second, she’s tossing the knife with deadly ease, her shoulders relaxed and posture triumphant, the next she’s gone from my sight.

Her half-finished sentence hangs in the air until her newly acquired blade blinks across the sky. The sound of metal striking metal clashes with Seeck’s shout. Her words echo in my mind, my thoughts lacking the information needed to know what she intended to say.

Pushing past the fading pain in my skull, I lunge toward the dust her feet left behind, her sudden movements flinging gravel onto my prone form.

As my fingers close around a slim leather-covered ankle, the telltale click of a weapon firing makes my guts tighten in dread.

My wrist twists as she dodges to the left. Knees scraping on the rocks as I scramble for purchase, I dig my toes into the loose pebbles, hoping to find traction.

The ankle in my grasp jerks but I keep a tight hold, refusing to let go.

A few torturous seconds pass before the toes of my boots dig deep enough to propel myself forward. A dainty sole gets closer as she tries to kick my face, but I block it with my other arm and lunge.

Her weight lands on me as I sweep her leg out from under her with my shoulder.

She mashes my left side into the ground as she rolls, but I haven’t released her ankle yet. I go with her, trying to pin her free leg under me, but she uses some unknown leverage to rocket my torso high enough for her to slip free.

Rocks and limbs fly as we grapple, blows landing and stones shifting the only sounds we make.

My chest aches as she manages a vicious kick to my sternum. Soft strands tease my fingers. I close my fist around the silkiest hair in existence.

Pain lances my head again, but this time I deflect a portion. Violet eyes widen as I sense her brain absorb the ricochet.

Her gasp calls my focus to her lips. She almost takes advantage of my slip.

  Almost.

She darts to her feet to run, but my hand in her hair yanks her head back.

I wrap my arms around her, flattening her elbows to her waist, and squeeze until her every breath sounds stilted. She lifts her legs as though she plans to pound her heels into my shins, but I warn her with a growl.

My pulse thrums in my veins, her robust scent clouding my brain.

The utter stillness enveloping us breaks through my haze.

My teammates surround us, no other Omega in sight.

Each one trains a weapon at my lifemate.

A growl escapes me, despite my understanding of how little we can trust this female.

“Let up old man, so you don’t kill her before I get the chance,” Jumoke snarls.

Another growl rumbles from my chest as I force my arms to relax a bit, even though my entire body feels stretched like a tightrope.

Her plump little ass pillows my cock too well, and I stand taller, forcing her to go on tiptoe as I bear hug her, grinding her back against my front.

I want nothing more than to sink my cock and teeth in her. The weapons trained in my direction help me negate the urges.

I look down over her head—is this the same Omega who bested me mere moments ago?—and marvel at her petite frame, luscious curves, and delicate features. I nearly lose myself when her full lips turn up in a smirk and her pink tongue darts out.

I want to lick her skin to see if she tastes like chocolate, the mesmerizing hue inflaming my desire further. When her eyes aim up at me, I lose myself.

I crush her to me, rubbing my cock between the glorious globes of her ass, one hand grabbing her full breast without my consent, and stretching my neck as I descend sharp teeth toward her nape.

Distant noises sound vaguely familiar, the masculine voices amplifying my need to stake my claim over this marvelous creature.

Millimeters from filling my mouth with her flesh, agony flares from my lower back. A matching pain begins in my shoulder, growing to encompass my entire torso. It streaks outward, burning everything in its path until I imagine fire shooting from my fingertips.

  No, not fire.

  Lightning.

The fuckers shot me with a neutralizer.

  Twice.

My prey lurches within my arms. One jolt runs through her body before my electrified muscles seize, holding her captive as I begin to lose consciousness. Another wave of current pulses through her before blackness slaps me in the face.

  Goddamn it.

This is not how this meeting should have ended.

Her unfinished sentence fills my head, repeating itself over and over again.

What the hell was she going to say?

  Chapter 2

  Evie

  Bollocks.

Waking up in such a way is never pleasant.

My neck pops as I rotate my head, the left side tight from resting on my slack shoulder.

You’d have thought they’d treat me better.

I am Vander’s lifemate after all.

No matter. Nothing a little fun won’t fix.

Rope surrounds each of my limbs, the metal chair under me included in the bindings.

  These men don’t play around.

  I love it.

When I rotate my left wrist, I find they’ve zip tied it to the arm of the chair before they wound the rope around my entire forearm.

  Efficient.

A little over the top, but smart.

Still not enough to keep m

e here if I wanted to leave, but intriguing nonetheless.

  And pretty.

A little wiggle reveals they’ve treated my legs the same way as well.

  Delicious.

I can’t help but sigh as I realize I’m not in Vander’s den. This room rarely gets used. There’s no linen on the bed, no food in the storage cabinet, and a stale scent hangs in the corners of the room.

Another wiggle reveals they’ve bolted the chair to the floor.

  Clever blokes.

Another sigh escapes me as I weigh my options. If the stupid blighters had taken a moment to listen then, well…

I’d probably be strapped up just like this, but they’d at least be better informed as to what they’re facing.

So, my options are either break loose and lose all hope of being heard, sit here all docile-like until someone comes around to interrogate me, or make someone pay attention to me.

Fine then. Taking the initiative hasn’t been an issue for me for a while now, so it won’t be anything new.

I take a moment to center myself. My muscles ache from pushing my body as fast as it could trek through the mountains. Maybe a few spots are sore from huge fingers and gigantic fists.

The heat of his palm on my neck returns, my memories fresh and tasty. My core heats, excitement thrumming through my veins at the thought of him actually getting the best of me.

When his weight settled on me and his hand wrapped around my throat, I came the closest I’ve ever been to feeling fulfilled.

I’m not immune to this man, not like I am to all the others. He’s big, burly, and tested with age. I want him to claim me.

He just has to earn it.

Pushing aside the aches and pains of my body, I let excitement fuel my tired muscles and strengthen my mental faculties.

“Hey! Any gents about? I’m awake.”

  Movement alerts my senses.

When I reach deep into the bonds connected to my heart, I find my lifemate’s as still and serene as an unperturbed pond. The bastard must still be out. I don’t blame him—neutralizers are a pain in the arse.

  And he got shot twice.

“Hey! Still awake over here!” I shout, even though three sets of footsteps head my way.

They gather on the other side of the door and stop, and I feel their silent communication. A grin pulls my lips up for the briefest of moments, but the severity of the upcoming interaction makes me smooth it away before the doorknob turns.

The big guy enters first, his golden hair no less amazing despite its shortness. It matches his close-cropped beard and honeyed complexion to perfection.

Too young for me, but a hunk nonetheless.

And obviously trying to play the “good cop” in this scenario. He emotes very little negativity, even though I sense his aggression due to his Omega lifemate in potential danger.

Next through the door stalks the carrot top, although his hair leans more toward the fiery neon of sunset than the orange of a root vegetable. He does nothing to hide his hostility.

If eyes could murder, I’d be dead.

Bloody hell, under different circumstances this would be excruciatingly fun.

Last to enter the room is the long-haired jokester of the group. His hazel eyes sparkle with an intriguing levity despite the situation. He’s the one I’ve been sparring with electronically for the last few weeks. It’s been great fun messing with him.

Too bad I had to make the first move. It’ll be fun to take my frustrations out on this poor lad.

He leaves the door open behind him and walks to the corner of the room, a sign of their deference to me being an Omega female slotted as their leader’s lifemate.

They all keep their distance. I can’t blame them. Their Omegas’ scents permeate from their pores. It must be so frustrating to have to part from their sweet little bees and deal with a hornet like me.

No one says anything for a minute.

  Fine, I’ll start this party.

“Hello, chaps. Fancy seeing you here.”

I fight the urge to smirk at their responses. Their tense muscles put their unease on display. Without further ado, I address them.

“Yes, Dirk, your lifemate is in trouble. That’s why I’m here. To help you get her out of it.”

I relish the shock on their faces but waste no time on theatrics.

“No, Seeck, you don’t need to break my legs to get information from me. I’m eager to share my knowledge.”

Enjoying the way their minds jump into hyper drive, I continue.

“Yes, Jumoke, you are an idiot. For all the bantering we’ve enjoyed, how in the bloody hell did you think I had rigged that file? Stupid cunt of a male, always thinking with the head between your legs instead of the one in your skull. Did you get what you were after?”

One eyebrow almost meets his hairline, but when another second ticks by without him opening his mouth, I sigh.

He starts to say something, but I interrupt him.

“You could’ve just asked me, you dolt.”

“You talk too much,” Seeck snarls.

I beam at him, laughing as his green eyes squint in frustration.

“On the contrary. I think she needs to speak more.”

I bask in the shiver running down my spine in response to my lifemate’s baritone voice. If I could bottle up his gravel-textured timber and live in it, I would be the happiest gal on the planet.

Nix that. Even better, I’d be the happiest gal in the galaxy.

His hulking form fills the doorway, the light from the hallway catching in his salt-and-pepper hair.

Dirk steps around Seeck and moves close to my lifemate, the designated peacekeeper of the room sideling up to the biggest hazard.

All these big macho Alphas look so threatened.

It’s enough to give a girl a complex.

Too entertained to back off now, I can’t help but poke the tiger.

“Which nutter did the rope work? This is spectacular, if a bit insulting,” I say, keeping my eyes trained on the male whose attention I wish to monopolize.

His long legs carry him two steps into the room before his teammate sticks half his body in the way, giving my lifemate a silent warning to watch his temper.

He’s a gorgeous specimen, with eyes that darken to slate grey when he’s angry. It didn’t take much to ruffle his feathers, eh?

Although I suppose being bested by a female and shot by his men would wound any Alpha’s pride.

Such fragile creatures, these Alpha males, for all their posturing and bluster.

“I’d love to meet the chap who ran his hands along my flesh while I was unconscious. He must h-”

“Definitely talks too much,” Seeck snarls as Dirk accepts my lifemate’s lunge.

While I greatly appreciate the behemoth’s intervention, I also regret not receiving my Alpha’s angry attack.

My eager body aches for his dominance, even as my intellect demands I test his ability to handle my more eclectic abilities.

His growl arrows straight to my core, and I long to snap at Dirk for denying me what I truly want, but I mask my desire with amusement.

“Oh, I’m sorry, did I go too far?”

“She has a death wish,” Jumoke chuckles from the corner, his shoulder propped against the wall as though he hasn’t a worry in the world, even though agitation and menace emanate from his aura.

I peel my eyes from the gorgeous and furious Alpha in front of me and meet Jumoke’s perusal.

Even without looking at my lifemate, I’m aware of his every movement and emotion, my body in tune with him just as my soul begs to connect with his own.

Knowing the outcome will be explosive, I pull my bottom lip between my teeth and lower my lashes in a well-practiced come-hither expression, enraging my beast to unreached heights.

“And if I do? Will you protect me, youngling?”

I laugh as the room explodes in violence, all three of my Alpha’s teammates working to contain his fury.

Glee unlike any I’ve ever enjoyed possesses me, and I savor the view of my rage-riddled mate.

  He may tame me yet.

  Not.

  Chapter 3

  Vander

I’ll consume her. I’ll devour her tempting lips as I master her needy body, giving her the dominance she so obviously desires.
